The Telling Room

This year's Christmas donation went to an organization in Maine, The Telling Room. My good friend, Ari Meil, is the president of the board of directors, and Celine is also on the board. It's a great organization that helps local kids.

More info:

Mission
The Telling Room is a nonprofit writing center in Portland, Maine, dedicated to the idea that children and young adults are natural storytellers. Focused on young writers ages 6 to 18, we seek to build confidence, strengthen literacy skills, and provide real audiences for our students’ stories. We believe that the power of creative expression can change our communities and prepare our youth for future success.

What We Do
Our fun, innovative programs enlist the support of local writers, artists, teachers, and community groups. At our downtown writing center we offer free afterschool workshops and tutoring, and host field trips for school groups from all over Maine. We also lead workshops at local schools and community organizations; bring acclaimed writers to Maine to give public readings and work with small groups of students; publish bestselling anthologies of student work; and carry out community-wide storytelling projects and events.

The fence

John finished the fence last night. Three more trees coming down next week, then more top soil, then grass.

water slide and snowcones

The grandkids and cousins had a blast on the blowup toy this year.  They were having contests to see you could jump the highest going down the slide.  I think Cole and Marley won; however, Annie did win for the craziest jump.

Pioneer Day Parade

My least favorite part of being a Stake President is riding in the Pioneer Day Parade. I drive and wave as the councilors throw candy. What do they think I am, a beauty queen? WAIT! Don't answer that. So if I'm obviously not a beauty queen, why do I have to sit in a prade and wave?

It was nice this year to have Annie, Brigett and Cole riding with me. President Belnap and President Payne have to walk since the new public safety requirements won't allow anyone to throw candy from a moving vehicle. What are they thinking? It's not a vehicle, IT"S A MULE! A mule which will soon be returned to the cabin, all cleaned up and in perfect functioning order.

Eva's summer dress courtesy of Grandma

In the second pic, she's demanding that I put the camera down and pick her up already.

She squeals, "Uppy me! Uppy me, Mama!"
